Phys. Rev. Lett. on photodesorption of pure carbon monoxide ice
A concerted strategy that integrates theoretical frameworks (developed at PCMT, Lille) with experimental observations (conducted af LERMA, Paris) has led to the explanation of a three-step mechanism occurring in CO ices. This mechanism is characterized by vibrational excitation, followed by a subsequent ‘kick’, and ultimately, molecular desorption. The elucidation of this mechanism has facilitated the simplification of what seemed to be a complex process into relatively simple, comprehensible terms, thus significantly enhancing the understanding of the photodesorption phenomena in interstellar ices.
