Résumé:

Light-based information processing presents an exciting avenue for machine learning tasks in terms of speed, scale and energy efficiency. In this talk, I will emphasize the synergy between emerging photonic platforms and neural network architectures. We will survey the major advances made regarding optical neural networks in the past decade and highlight some of the fundamental challenges yet to be addressed. This discussion will serve as a backdrop for delving into the specific research areas being pursued by our team at PhLAM.
