Résumé :
Hollow-core fibres guide light through an air-filled central channel surrounded by a carefully engineered glass microstructure. This gives them a unique combination of properties that are attracting considerable interest for applications ranging from high-capacity optical communications and precision sensing to high-power laser delivery and quantum technologies. Compared with conventional solid-core optical fibres, they can offer substantially lower attenuation, reduced signal latency, lower chromatic dispersion, and dramatically weaker optical nonlinearities.
To fully exploit these advantages, hollow-core fibres must be integrated with the extensive ecosystem of components and systems developed for conventional optical fibres. Ensuring compatibility with existing fibre technology is therefore a key practical challenge, particularly in hybrid systems that combine hollow-core fibres with established technologies such as erbium-doped fibre amplifiers.
In this presentation, we discuss the unique characteristics of hollow-core fibres that influence how such connections and interfaces should be evaluated. We then review the principal approaches that have been developed to achieve efficient integration with conventional fibre systems, highlighting their respective advantages and limitations.
