Pint of Science Festival 2025

Vie du labo

The Pint of Science Festival is all about demystifying scientific research and sharing it with the general public in a relaxed setting.

As part of the 2025 Pint of Science Festival, supported by CNRS DR18, three of our colleagues will be giving public talks aimed at a wide audience.

  • Wednesday, April 23, 2025 – 6:45 PM – La Madeleine Media Library

Northern Lights: a phenomenon of great beauty. A Sun–Earth interaction by Denis DUFLOT, Gaël CESSATEUR and Julien LOOTEN.

In May 2024, an extraordinary night offered exceptionally widespread visibility of the northern lights across all regions of mainland France. Usually limited to areas near the polar circle, this phenomenon gave rise to a wave of stunning images and videos that lit up social media. But what exactly causes auroras? What physical processes are involved? Why do they sometimes become more frequent and visible at lower latitudes?
And how can you maximize your chances of observing them—or even capturing them on camera?

  • Tuesday, May 20, 2025 – 6:45 PM - Le Polder

Entanglement and Quantum Incantations by Daniel HENNEQUIN, Philippe VERKERK and Talia SZIKMAN.

Wave–particle duality, the uncertainty principle, wave functions, quantum state superposition, entanglement, quantum decoherence... These physics concepts spark curiosity, even fascination—and often confusion.
What do they really mean? Why is the word "quantum" so often misused, especially in advertising? A bit of critical thinking is in order…

Reservations required – registration opens April 14.
Please note: the talks will be given in French.
