The PhLAM laboratory is located mainly in the historical building of the physics department (P5) and in its extensions P5bis and CERLA, located on the Cité Scientifique campus of the Faculty of Sciences and Technologies of the University of Lille in the Hauts-de -France region in Villeneuve d'Ascq. Since 2007, part of the Photonics team has moved to IRCICA (USR 3380), located in the Science Park of Haute-Borne.

The laboratory is one of the main physics laboratories of the North, it is important for the local physics and one of the structuring research poles of the north of France. PhLAM plays an important role in the University of Lille, of which it is a flagship laboratory.
