The PhLAM laboratory at Méliscience

Photonique Vie du labo

The PhLAM laboratory once again took part in Méliscience, the science-themed break organised by the CNRS Hauts-de-France at the Lycée André Lurçat in Maubeuge

Raising pupils’ awareness of science, fostering a passion for research and inspiring future careers are among the objectives of the PhLAM laboratory.

It is in this spirit of making scientific research and the careers associated with the scientific world more accessible that members of the photonics team, Yves Quiquempois, Laurent Bigot and Monika Bouet, shared their passion with over fifty Year 13 and Year 14 pupils on Tuesday 12 May.

During a series of 55-minute workshops, the pupils attended a presentation on the manufacture of optical fibre and its various everyday uses. They also learnt about the use of light in new optical fibres, supported by technical demonstrations, in an atmosphere that was both educational and welcoming.

A big thank you to the CNRS Hauts-de-France for their continued trust, to the teaching staff at Lycée André Lurçat for their warm welcome, and to the students for their curiosity and enthusiasm.
