Neptunium(VI) Bends, Plutonium Reduces to Pu(V)!
Phenanthroline forces neptunyl(VI) into a rare bent geometry, creating the most distorted neptunyl structure ever reported, while plutonium resists deformation and undergoes reduction to Pu(V). This work illuminates how ligand crowding, electronic structure, and redox behavior interweave to reshape the fundamental chemistry of actinyl ions beyond uranium.
