A look back at the two-week work placement for Year 10 students at PhLAM
Vie du labo
From 16 to 27 June, the FST welcomed 96 secondary school students for a two-week observation period. In all, 24 students from a wide range of schools, including some from outside the Lille academy (Amiens, Nantes, Rennes, Reims, Dijon, Avignon, Angers), arrived at PhLAM on 16 June.
The two weeks were packed with learning opportunities, and the students were very curious about the projects presented. They had the opportunity to talk to PhLAM researchers, design engineers and doctoral students to gain an understanding of the different themes in physics. They also took the opportunity to discover other laboratories in the Physics department, such as CERLA and IRCICA.
The internships ended with oral presentations of the highlights of their internships. What the students particularly appreciated were the workshops on spectroscopy, perovskites, optical fibres, quantum mechanics and the Art & Science workshop, which combined knowledge and imagination.
The students were unanimous in saying that they were delighted to discover physics in a laboratory like PhLAM. For Amélie, "my expectations before starting the course were to be guided in my career choice, to discover careers in physics and to learn while having fun", and for Simon it goes even further, as he "thanks the teachers who helped me find my career path".
