Biophotonique

Center of Expertise for Experimental Biophotonics (photon4bio-measurements).

It stems from a common interest in microscopy techniques and biology expressed by teams inside and outside the laboratory.

Its objectives are to provide access to internal microscopy techniques, some of which are unique in the region, and to provide suitable facilities for researchers and other teams who are unable to manage biological material by facilitating their access to facilities of molecular and cellular biology installed at PhLAM. Current users are mainly teams from the laboratory but also teams from other laboratories present on the Cité Scientifique campus of the University of Lille: LASIR, IEMN and Inserm U1003 and U908.

The ambition of this center is to open access to teams from other campuses and universities in Northern France and Belgium. This center was born with funding from CPER Photonics 4 Society and EquipEx ImaginEx Bio-Med.

It is currently supported by the biology projects of the DYSCO team (transcription dynamics, circadian cycle, stress responses). The CARS part was supported by SATT-NORD as part of the CARS-Image Improvement Project.

It currently hosts 3 external projects: L. Lemonnier and F. Van Abeele (Inserm U1003-PhyCell) and M. Sliwa (LASIR).

Functional Cell Biophotonics

The functional Cellular Biophotonics team was created in 2006 within the Institute of Interdisciplinary Research (IRI) under the responsibility of Laurent Héliot.

It is an interdisciplinary team bringing together biologists, instrumentalists, physicists and computer scientists to carry out the development and implementation of photonic instrumentation dedicated to the study of the dynamics of molecular interactions in living cells and tissues.

This research is mainly conducted around the study of the functional organization of the nucleus and the regulation of transcription (ANR DynamIC 2012-2015).

Other biological topics are also discussed in collaboration with non-IRI teams such as signaling or intracellular traffic (ANR GalFish, G2Progress).

The team's activities aim to use the properties of photon / matter interactions to characterize molecular dynamics and interactions at the cell level. For this, it develops innovative strategies for multimodal fluorescence microscopy (FLIM, FCS, FCCS, ICS) and vibrational microscopy (CARS, SRS) and image analysis tools (Titan and MAPI software). In particular, she works for these developments with the PIRATE project team (IRI). The group actively participates in several national networks of microscopy and biophotonics both at the level of the MRCT (RTmfm) and at the level of the Research Group "Living microscopy of life (GDR2588) of which Laurent Héliot is the director since 2009. It is also very involved in the organization of the MiFoBio thematic school since 2004.

The Biophotonics team conducts numerous national and international collaborations with teams from different fields. It is strongly open to new collaborations and welcomes many trainees.
